Gun Control - Arguments and Rebuttals

, known today as the Brady Campaign to prevent Gun Violence. President Reagan supported the Bill, but it wasn't until the early days of Bill Clinton that the bill was finally passed, requiring background checks for every gun purchase. The passage of the Brady Bill marked the start of the gun control lobby's greatest hour in the nation's capital - and gun rights advocates' most heated debates.
The third crucial factor important to understanding the background to this topic was noted fairly recently on June 27, 2012.In Heller, the court addressed a broad law in the District that prohibited handguns. The law went so far as to say that people who owned rifles must keep them unloaded. Dick Heller, a police officer, wanted to keep a handgun in his home but was denied a permit. He challenged the law in court on the ground that the law infringed upon his constitutional right to bear arms under the Second Amendment. The U.S Supreme Court in a majority opinion by Justice Antonia Scalia explained that the Second Amendment guarantees "the individual's right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation" (2).
The final important issue regarding background on this topic that has rekindled this heated debate is the massive shootings. The government, social scientists, and other politicians and professionals have studied these tragic incidents to search for the possible correlation between the availability of guns and gun violence. These tragedies-mass shooting at the Navy Yard, the Travon Martin case, the Mass shooting at the movie theatre in Colorado, as well as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting-have caused the debate to resurface and reignite because of the issue of violence in the nation. All of these cases combined have served as reasons for the continuing debate on stricter gun control laws and violence. .
             WEAKEST ARGUMENT.
Gun control advocates believe that there's no reason for someone to move around with a gun if not for the purpose of causing violence.
