Admission Letter - Drexel University

I want to make this clear; I've been dreaming about studying at Drexel since I was in grade school! I'm a twenty-year-old, African-American male born in West Philadelphia and raised in the suburbs with both my parents and my twin brother. Having been raised by both of my parents I knew I was privileged even as a young kid and I held onto an innate sense of being destined for greatness. My parents sent my brother and I to one of the best private schools in Philadelphia, St. Francis de Sales School. My parents gave us the best of everything so I'd like to assure the same for them and make them and my own family one-day proud of what I did in life. I plan to take advantage of everything life has to offer and make Drexel University proud to have a stake in my endeavors.
Having attended one of the most diverse high schools in Philadelphia I became aware of and experienced so many different cultures and walks of life. This fact along with my affinity for reading allowed me to obtain sophistication and become more open-minded despite never traveling. I pride myself with having attended one of the best high schools in the country recognized so by the U. S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. I was a proud member of the 272nd graduating class and not until that exact day – which I must add fell on my eighteenth birthday – did I actually realize of what I was now a part. On that day, I joined the elite group of Central Alumni sealing my fait as a shining example of Black exceptionalism.
Since I can remember I've had the feeling that I'm meant to do something important in life, something along the lines of cultivating mass awareness. In middle school I remember shying away from my peers just in order to converse with my teachers. In retrospect, those conversations gave me much of the wisdom I have today. In addition to having gained much from my socialization, I inherited a natural sense of empathic accuracy from my mom.
