Do you think killing someone because they have killed someone is right? Murder is wrong, any way you look at it. Since childhood, I have learned that this is the truth. The question then is, what is capital punishment? Simply put, capital punishment can be defined as being the process in which a person is put to death as a punishment for a crime. It is also known as the death penalty. Coincidentally, that is the definition of murder. The death penalty punishment is the act of deliberately taking the life of another person. Currently, there are thirty-six states in the United States that have legalized the death penalty. This must be changed, and these states need to abolish it on the ground that it carries a dangerous risk of punishing the innocent. The action is barbaric, unethical, and is an ineffective punishment of a crime committed. On the other hand, a much better alternative may be life in prison without parole. The death penalty is the most irreversible crime governments' effect without consequence, and must be abolished.
"We're only human, we all make mistakes." This commonly used phrase has a lot of truth and meaning to it. Human beings are famous for their abundance of mistakes they make. In the case of the death penalty, however, error becomes a risk to innocent people. Since there is a great possibility that error is possible, the dramatic measure of the death penalty should not be given. As people, we are an unavoidable force of error. However, when a life is at stake, error is not given an option. To state simply, the death penalty is killing by the state government. The United States has prided themselves in their government, its injustice and truth. Murder by a citizen will have consequences, yet a government-approved murder is not only seen to many people as acceptable, but also enforceable. This makes the American government send a very negative message to their people, and other countries as well, by the continuation of being a nation that kills it citizens.
