Discrimination Against Race and Color

Racism is Discrimination against people of different races. The one who it affected the most was the African Americans. It occurred most often and worse in the south, because they were beaten, they had segregation, and they were slaves. Discrimination based on race is wrong; in the United States African Americans have suffered slavery, civil rights violations, and Employment Discrimination; but laws now have been passed to make everyone equal. Even though slavery was abolished for all, it is one reason why civil rights violations became a problem and after civil rights violations were solved, Employment Discrimination became a problem.
In the article, "The Freedmen's Bureau" by W.E. Burghardt Du Bois states that "when Lincoln emancipated the slaves" many of the uneducated slaves were left with "No jobs, No homes, No education" (para.1) They were basically homeless and they had nothing. However, Lincoln had thought about it and wanted to help the slaves find education, find jobs and find homes to live in; so "Congress established Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and abandoned lands, they looked after former slave population" (para.3). One of the positive things is about the Bureau's actions is that they mixed whites and blacks together in school. The one negative thing about the Bureau is "they failed to establish good will between ex-masters and freedmen" (para.6) Similar to Du Bois, Emerson states that "when Lincoln was running for president he at first just wanted to contain the institution of slavery, not abolish it" (para.1) Both authors used ethos to describe how the situation was wrong. In the article "American Civilization" Emerson states that "This redirected peoples fight toward the issue instead at the war at hand" (para.8). Once the war ended the slavery was abolished, African Americans suffered civil rights violations.
