These prophecies delivered shivers to Macbeth because Macbeth gained thoughts of killing Duncan in order to turn the prophecies into reality. However, Macbeth did not want to kill Duncan as he states "cannot be ill; cannot be good. nothing is but what is not" (Act 1 S3 L141-153). As a result of Macbeth's statement, this shows that Macbeth is still a marvelous noblemen and he has not yet lost his sanity because no one is around to influence him. Although he had thoughts of murdering the king, Macbeth is pleased and thrilled to see King Duncan. The quote "The service and the loyalty I owe. toward your love and honor" (act 1 S4 L25-30) demonstrates Macbeth's loyalty to Duncan because Macbeth states that he will serve the king with love and honour. Thus, Macbeth is a very kind, compassionate and loyal person when he received no influence and pressure from other characters. .
Macbeth was never a wicked or corrupted person, he is just an indecisive and hesitant person; he wasn't confident with his own opinions and thoughts. Lady Macbeth was the key to Macbeth's mental breakdown because she took advantage of Macbeth's indecisiveness as well as his lack of confidence. She had essentially forced him into murdering Duncan even though he was against it. When Lady Macbeth and Macbeth were talking, Lady Macbeth stated "what beast was't then. If we should fail"   (Act 1 S7 L52-65), where she threatened Macbeth that if Macbeth did not kill Duncan, it shows that Macbeth doesn't love her, which is clearly non sensual. This is an indication that Macbeth is extremely indecisive because although he did not want to murder Duncan, he also did not want to lose Lady Macbeth, therefore he decided to carry out the plan for Lady Macbeth's sake. Macbeth did not only get misled by Lady Macbeth's tricks, he also got misled by the witches, which shows how gullible and indecisive Macbeth is with his own opinions.
