Climate Change and the Canadian Government


A whooping 30-40% of the mass of the ice caps has melted since 2005, and almost nothing has been done about it. There really has to be a change in the way Canada conducts itself in order to try and reduce the amount of environmental affect it contributes. .
             Canada is one of the world's leaders in pollution per capita, and a change needs to happen with what already exists. We as a society need to learn how to put our environment ahead of a twenty minute shower, although we have begun to change a small bit. Canada lives a luxurious lifestyle, which is very harmful towards our beautiful environment. One of the worst sources of pollution in Canada is coming from our oil sands. Greenhouse gas emissions from the oilsands, the fastest growing source of carbon pollution in Canada, increased approximately 62 percent between 2005 and 2011, to 55 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions, from 34 million tonnes. Alberta's oil sands are set to cause growing levels of acid rain consequentially leading to an increase in water contamination in the area. Acid rain will cause Canada's lakes and rivers to become further acidified. There are some very simple ways that you can reduce the amount of pollution around us. One of the simplest option is just turning off the lights when you leave a room. Another very easy thing to do is you could use other sources of transportation than your car. Driving is one of the worst sources of pollution, according to Melanie J. Martin of Homeguides.com. Fuel production itself creates a significant amount of emissions, which drivers support by filling up their expensive tanks with gasoline. In 2007, Canada released different aggressive plans it had to reduce greenhouse gases, air pollution and reduce the amount of harmful gases being released by factories.
