An Overview of Teen Pregnancy

On the contrary, some teens really do not have access to contraception, which is just as unfortunate for our youth as being ignorant to the matter at hand. .
Aside from just not using birth control, some teens have other secret agendas. There are girls out there who feel as if having a baby will fulfill some sort of emotional need that they are not getting at home. Some girls, and even young men as well, think that having a baby will increase their maturity. Why? Because of an increased level of responsibility a child requires. Little do they know that it takes more than maturity to raise a child. Out of all these reasons, one that struck me the most was the fact that some adolescence say sex feels better without it, so they choose not to take proper precautions. It is sad that kids in America would rather risk having a child than thinking about their futures and taking measures to prevent it. .
Because teens often times do not have the proper guidance and knowledge about teen pregnancy, once it happens, the consequences can be severe and life changing. Not only for the parents and the child, but these consequences also affect the society in which they live in. From the reading, I was informed that teen mothers are less likely to finish high school, more likely to rely on public assistance, and more likely to be poor as adults than those that wait until later to have children. There are not only negative effects for the moms, but also for the dads as well. Teenage pregnancies are associated with increased rates of alcohol abuse and substance abuse, lower educational level, and reduced earning potential in teen fathers. Because of these odds, these same type of parents are more likely to have children who have poorer educational, behavioral, and health outcomes over the course of their lives than kids born to older parents do. Since the children born to these parents have higher needs than others, this takes a toll on the economy and the people that pay taxes.
