The United States and War with Meixco

hampering our power. limiting our greatness and checking our fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence(God) for free development of our yearly multiplying millions." shows us that even though John O'Sullivan is describing U.S. as a great country, he is also at the same time making fun of Mexico. Its because he is saying that Mexico is not letting U.S expand and when americans heard this, they wanted to fight with Mexico because Mexico wouldn't let the U.S. become a big country. Another evidence that I gave for my claim also comes from Document A. According to Document A, when it says "Imbecile and distracted, Mexico never can exert any real government authority." shows us that this caused americans to become more angry with Mexico than ever before. It is because this quote shows why Texas became a state on the United States instead of a territory in Mexico. It also shows the reason why California will net the next state of the Unites States. In my opinion, John Polk has no right to say this because because even though he is a journalist, he doesn't know how Mexico governs its land and treats its people. This quote may have been the cause of the war which was unjustified because after hearing this sentence, most of Americans might have fought for the land owned by Mexico which they believed to be suffering because Mexico's government could take care of them nicely. One reason the United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico is because of John O'Sullivan.
Besides John O'Sullivan, the second main reason the Mexican- American happened was because of President James Polk. James Polk(1845-1849) was the 11th President of the Unites States. The main reason he was elected as President was because like John O' Sullivan he also believed in Manifest Destiny. Also he was the President during the Mexican- American War, and being the president, instead of stopping the war, he provoked Mexican into fighting.
