Japan is known to be one of the most developed and established countries not only in Asia, but also across the planet. Their technology is so advanced and innovative making them one of the leading producers and manufacturers of gadgets, cars, and other electronics or things that involve technology. Japan's forte lies in technology that makes it a world leader in so many technological fields. Apart from that, their education system is one of the best education systems around the world. Nonetheless, even well-prepared and developed countries are not insusceptible to these terrifying disasters. Japan sits on a subduction zone, which is where one plate is being forced beneath another. It is also at the meeting point of two pieces of the giant Pacific plate, which are moving in different directions alongside each other which makes it prone to to earthquakes and tsunamis. Hence, Japan is not exempted from the disasters brought about by these natural forces.
March 11, 2011 was a devastating day for Japan. They were shook by an earthquake. It was not just an ordinary earthquake. It was recorded as the strongest earthquake this nation ever experienced, with a magnitude of 9. Apart from that, numerous aftershocks also succeeded the earthquake. Following the horrifying earthquake, Japan was washed by a tsunami that was brought about by the same earthquake. In Japan, they have always expected a tsunami after an earthquake. However this time, the tsunami was unexpectedly absolutely horrifying, reaching a height of 10 meters. To worsen the situation, the waves of the tsunami washed over the nuclear power plant in Fukushima that caused fire to rage out. These horrendous events left Japan in crisis. .
With the huge death toll and other nightmarish effects of the said disasters, I have come to realize that preparation is very important and very much necessary. We could derive from these disasters that, we should always expect the unexpected.
