The Civil War and the Future of America

The first topic that we explore is the election of 1800 which brought the transformation in the American politics. The election made Thomas Jefferson the president of the United States, that was not a victory for Jefferson only but that was the victory for the entire American nation as the new century also changed the whole dynamics of politics and the change was made from bullet to ballot. In many ways, the elections of 1800 are called the second revolution after the independence of 1776[ CITATION Tho10 l 1033 ]. These elections not only changed the entire way of American politics but also brought a visible change in the attitudes of both politicians and the public alike. This is also important to note that the transition to peaceful elections was very smooth and the parties involved were the main stakeholders which played the pivotal role in bringing about this change in the environment which had been full of political contentions before. The terror reigned in the late 1790s and there was no hope that such a peaceful transition would be made in the politics which was going to shape the whole coming history of the Unites States for next many hundred years.
The fourteenth amendment in the constitution which was passed in the year 1868 is the third topic that is discussed. The amendment has importance because it defined many aspects of citizenship and discussed the extent to which the citizens have certain rights. It defined the citizenship as a person who was naturalized or born in the United States will have the nationality of the US. It also discussed the habeas corpus and the citizenship with respect to each other so that the rights of the citizens could be established objectively. It also defined various institutions and the people who may or may take these public offices such as senator, president, vice president etc. The extent and validity of public debt was also discussed in the amendment and in this regard the amendment had pivotal importance in the constitutional history of the United States.
