History and The Declaration of Independence

In Howard Zinn's 'History is A Weapon', he reexamines the true nature of the American independence war as well as the revolution at the time. According to Zinn and other historical evidences, the was of independence was far less glorious and liberating as the leaders of the war had stated it to be. That is, there are as much injustice conducted by the American government with regard to racial and gender issues as the old British colonists. Under the same light, one ought to scrutinize the Declaration of Independence in validating Zinn's arguments.
The last sentence from chapter 4 of Howard Zinn's book, "tyranny is tyranny let it com from whom it may" (Zinn, cup 4), concludes his central theme of the chapter that the American Revolution was not an attempt of saving the country from colonialism with a legalized and democratic system that belongs to the New World Americans. On Zinn's account, the only thing changed after the revolution is the people in charge of the country, albeit the same elitist principles or rules that prevailed under the British authority remained. As for the Declaration of Independence, constructed by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, was a declaration from a group of well-off people who were interested in pursuing their own prosperity at the expense of the non-elites in the society. That is to say, the outspoken words with regard to equality and liberty are merely a disguise, or a well-formed excuse for more people in less than satisfactory living situations to believe in the government. The Revolutionary War, as Zinn puts it, propelled people from the lower class to fight for the interest of the higher class, however unwilling or unaware they might have been. .
Following chapter 4, Zinn goes on to clarify that the War of Independence was, in its nature, a power struggle among the American elites and the British aristocrats.
