Bolsheviks and the Russian Civil War

Many of these locals used propaganda to explain their feelings of hatred during the Russian Civil War to either side. The Whites' propaganda was mainly gesturing to the Red Terror, by showing how mean the Bolsheviks are, but also, their propaganda was about traditional hatreds and mostly about the Red Army's leader, Trotsky, who was the most recognisable during this time. Ironically, the Mensheviks first came up with the propaganda and used it against the Bolsheviks, however when they got involved, the Bolshevik's propaganda was more effective against the Mensheviks. The Bolsheviks used their propaganda to persuade civilians and workers from the Mensheviks' area, over to theirs, supplying Reds with an even bigger army.
At the start of the Russian Civil War, the Red Army began investing into the formation of their army, and taking control of the citizens around them. The Bolsheviks had a stronger, well trained army, and they've claimed the cities- Moscow and Petrograd early on. These cities controlled the factories that produced goods and the railroad systems that went to and from resources. The "Red Guards," were a big part of the Bolshevik's army. They consisted of factory workers, peasants and Eastern Slavs, who all wanted to protect the Soviet's power. These units were formed in 1917, but after a year, some reorganized into the Red Army. Within the area of the citizens, however, a new force was created to protect the Soviet from any conspirators against Lenin. This organization was called the "Cheka." While Lenin ruled, he made sure everyone between Petrograd and Moscow agreed with the Bolsheviks in some manner. The Cheka organization would "get rid of" many of the enemies of Lenin's estate, causing the Red Terror to occur. The Red Terror was a series of executions of the Cheka secret police from September to October 1918. "In not more than a month's time terror will assume very violent forms, after the example of the great French Revolution; the guillotine.
