Critique on Bush's

That drastically changed following the events of September 11, 2001 when thousands of American lives were lost in the event of two commercial airliners collapsing the World Trade Center in New York City, one striking the Pentagon, and another crashing in Pennsylvania. The tragic events caused the U.S. to begin a serious and drastic campaign against global terrorism. While this ultimately began with the 9/11 culprits "the Afghanistan Taliban and Al Qada network "Hammill notes when addressing the deconstruction of the Taliban that "Iraq, far from being a departure from the war on terrorism, was actually an extension of it."" (p.328).
Still, the main concern with Iraq remained to be its threat to the global community and its own citizens, and had remained this way for too long of a time for the U.S. to not take action. Ultimately, this stands as the leading factor for the presentation of Bush's national address. While millions of Iraq's own citizens were persecuted and used for the increasing power of Hussein, Sadaam also was suspected to contain illegal weapons that could destroy entire nations. Mueller best states this point when he says " Iraq is no joke: under the rein of Hussein, Iraq has invaded two of its neighbors, lobbed missiles at two other countries in the region, systematically defied U.N. resolutions that demand its disbarment, fired on U.S. and coalition aircraft thousands of times over the past decade, and committed atrocious human rights abuses against its own citizens including the waging of genocidal chemical warfare against Iraqi Kurds. In short, this is a regime that is responsible for hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of deaths."" (p.46).
However, the audience "the American Public "maintained mixed attitudes regarding Bush's decision to enter into war. USA Today reported that "In early February, just 34% approved of going without U.N. blessing.
