In the documentary film "Vanishing of the Bees," it explores the reason why we have lost bees and the effects of what could happen if we lost bees. This film gives us insight on how important our bee populations is. In a way we tend to forget about the important things, like bees. We don't purposely forget, but between family life, jobs, bills, and all the other day to day activities, it gets easy to not think about the bees and how much they impact our existence. If the bees really were to disappear we would literally be sent back to the Stone Age. Maybe not in a technological way but in an agricultural way. We would live off of rice, corn and wheat, and that's it. Our food source is vital and the bees are our only way of us keeping our food.
How much do we rely on the bees? Think about it this way, 30% of our food crops are directly reliant on bees. This is just crops, this isn't taking in account the reliance of bees pollinating food in other types of environments. If farmers cannot produce food than we cannot eat, and then the farmer can't eat because he is not bringing in income for his family and business. So it creates this vicious circle of hunger and income. Another thing to think about is, if we cannot grow food, then we also don't have a food export for trading. We send a lot of food oversees for other countries. Not just our nation but the entire world relies on bees and their pollination. Put food aside, we need bees to even create new trees and flowers. If there was land that was destroyed due to a wild fire, bees would be able to help grow new trees and plants. If we did not have bees than these places would take longer to grow back. .
What is Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)? .
Colony Collapse Disorder, which is a syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen and usually honey and immature bees are still present. There is no scientific cause for CCD that has been proven.
