It has come to the attention of a British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, that Syria may be building chemical weapons. This specific type of weapon has been decommissioned for many reasons. It is illegal for a country to use these weapons. There will probably be severe consequences if Syria decides to initiate the use of chemical weapons. These weapons are considered a WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction) and are very lethal. Syria should not be producing these weapons for any reason at all. There is a reason why they are illegal, mainly because they are extremely inhumane.
It is believed that Syria is in possession of a large stockpile of chemical weapons. This news raises awareness of what could potentially happen. If these chemical weapons are put into action it may result in war. Among these weapons are some highly lethal nerve agents. These nerve agents have been outlawed by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993. Death by nerve agents is extremely inhumane. Nerve agents cause the contraction of pupils, profuse salivation, convulsions, involuntary urination and defecation, and eventual death by asphyxiation as control is lost over respiratory muscles. Although there are antidotes for nerve agents, they aren't always capable of curing a person diagnosed with having the nerve agent in them. In some cases, the amount of nerve damage done after exposure is irreversible. .
British Foreign Secretary William Hague says, "There is enough evidence to know that they need a warning". U.S. president Barack Obama said, "The use of chemical weapons is, and would be, totally unacceptable and if you make the tragic mistake of using these weapons, there will be consequences and you will be held accountable." It is not one hundred percent certain that Syria intends on using these weapons but, they have enough of them to concern the OPCW. OPCW stands for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
