Learning from Broken Trust

With different kinds of relationships there are different kinds of trust. There is trust in friends, trust in a significant other, and trust in a family. With each kind of relationship there is a certain degree of initial confidence. For example, with friends or significant others, there would be no relationship if an individual didn't begin with some sort of faith in the other person. An individual wouldn't begin dating someone immediately believing that they are not going to remain faithful. Likewise, many people generally want to be able to share all of their innermost thoughts and feelings with their friends, but if they do not feel safe doing so because they do not trust them, the friendship will struggle significantly. However, with families the initial trust is different. One might have an immediate faith in one's family because they took care of him or her, provided for him or her, and loved him or her, and their family has instant trust in him or her because they are one of their own. Trust is what binds us to others and what allows us to be able to build any kind of relationship. .
Unfortunately, people are human and make mistakes, and there are times when we break other's trust in us, or others break our confidence in them. Luckily, when this occurs, not all hope is lost. Trust can often be rebuilt if both parties are willing to work together to restore it. Rebuilding trust is not solely the responsibility of the person who broke it, and the guilty party seeing how many times the can prove them selves worthy of trust again; it is also dependent upon the persons whose trust was lost. That person has to decide if they are even willing to try and restore their lost trust. Restoring trust is a two way street, and neither side is easy. To regain trust, the person who lost it must prove over, and over, and over again that they are serious about restoring the relationship. An individual must act consistently according to keeping the promises they made to regain the faith of another.
