While the steam engine was seen as one of the most important advancements, the Railroad is not too far behind it. Many positive outcomes happened because of the railroad. .
Railroads had a major effect on farming because goods were able to travel longer distances than before. Manufactured goods and food increased in availability because of the quick transportation the railroad provided. The population also went up because food was available in in many variety and at a low cost. Railroads also impacted factories in a positive way due to the high need for railroad parts as well as railroad tracks. This created jobs and thousands of people were working in the factories which helped improve their lives fairly quickly. Using the railroad became a very popular form of transportation because it was fast, convenient, inexpensive and overall more efficient. Because of the railroads, it led to other forms of transportation such as cars, airplanes, and subways. If the railroad wasn't developed we would certainly not have cars or airplanes. It's quite possible we'd still be using horses and carriages to get around. The development of the railroad was a revolution in itself. The way people communicated between one another would also be changing. Before the telegraph, communication was difficult and slow. Sending and receiving messages was no easy task back then. In today's world, we can reach one another by text messaging and video chatting. The invention of the telegraph was essential so that communication could become easier and faster. This new way of communication made it possible so that messages could travel over telegraph lines and messages be received merely in a few seconds. .
Another great invention during this time was the telephone. The telephone greatly changed how people connected with each other. Advancements in electricity opened many doors. Before the lightbulb, candles and oil lamps were used.
