Film Critique - Maleficent

James Newton Howard was allowed to have fun with the music while mixing dark and joyful songs together. Southall also says "The lengthy album seems to pass by in a flash, maintaining an impressive balance between hard-hitting action and softer emotions, between the forces of dark and light, throughout its running time." The music of the movie helps make it more intense during every scene of the movie, because it show the battle between good and evil, which is also seen within the movie.
The dialogue of this movie is very sarcastic and powerful even though throughout the movie, there are only a few really good lines. I think the makers of the movie were more focused on special effects and other scenes. one of the most powerful lines is when Maleficent says "Hmm. Mmm. Listen well, all of you. The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, beloved by all who meet her." Queen Leah responds, "That's a lovely gift." Stefan says, "Don't do this." Maleficent says, "But before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep like death! A sleep from which she will never awaken!" Stefan responds, "Maleficent, please don't do this, I'm begging you." Maleficent says, "I like you begging. Do it again." Stefan concedes, "I beg you." Maleficent responds, "Alright. The princess can be woken from her death sleep, but only by.true love's kiss. This curse will last till the end of time! No power on Earth can change it!" (MovieQuotesandMore). This scene is very powerful. A critic says Angelina Jolie, "does an incredible job of portraying both a villain, and a heroine at the same time. Her duality is beyond impressive" (MovieGeeks). Angelina Jolie brings a piece of herself into the role and makes it magnificent. I feel that if it was possible Jolie could have carried some parts of the movie alone. Another great scene is when Maleficent realizes she loves and care for Aurora and she attempts to revoke her powerful curse by saying, I revoke the curse.
