Haiti's self running government and economy were terrible mostly due to a tiny class of elites and the U.S. noticed this and occupied Haiti in 1915. From 1915 to present, the U.S. has been a major power in what does and doesn't happen in Haiti. .
             There are blind thrust faults which makes Haiti susceptible to earthquakes like the devastating 7.0 in 2004 which killed about 75,000 people. The landscape of the country is consisted of a few valleys running south east to north west that are essential for growing crops. There are two major mountain ranges with a river running down the middle that makes up their main valley. Haiti's largest lake is Etang Saumarte. Haiti was lush with forests, but now uses it wood for fuel with nearly 98% of their original forest gone. There are two main highways in Haiti that run from one end of the country to the other with a "tap tap" which literally means "quick quick" bus system that serve as taxis. The population is about 10 million with 34% being ages 0-14, 21.6% being 15-24, 35.3% being 25-54, 5% bring 55-64, and 4.1% being over 65. Haiti is one of the last 10 countries in the world in terms of spending money on education(177 out of 186). Public school is offered, but only 65% of primary aged kids are enrolled. Where only 55% of secondary aged kids are enrolled. Nearly 5% of the population is affected with hiv/aids. Tuberculosis and malaria are affecting much of Haiti and it isn't related to the diseases, but it definitely doesn't help that only 25% of Haitian houses have running water that still may not be safe to drink. The gdp is $12.9 billion and about $1,243 per capita. Haitian mulattos make up 5% of the population and are said to be the economic and social hierarchy of Haiti. Haiti is a semi-presidential republic where the president is elected directly by the people. The president appoints a prime minister who acts as the head of the government but they both work together to constitute the government.
