Corporal Punishment and Student Discipline

In 1948, there was the formation of the Human rights organization which was called the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) to fight for what was considered to infringe human rights. Frankly speaking, the human activity has been integrated into a globalized world where the use of international standards has contributed positively on the previously marginalized groups such as children. Gender and racial inequality have contributed to the infringement of children's rights in the international arena. .
In such a context, corporal punishment has become a contentious issue to the extent of being fully outlawed in many countries. In another perspective, the rights of majority social groups have been progressive and historical customs have overturned, and so is the problem of the corporal punishment. The UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) 19 article five states clearly that no one is supposed to be subjected to cruelty or torture, whether degrading treatment or inhuman or punishment. In the application of the article, the definition alone of the corporal punishment as the deliberate infliction of physical pain or torture as a technique of persuading people to abruptly change certain undesirable behaviors falls under the category of degrading and cruel punishment. Therefore, corporal punishment does not comply with the Universal Declaration Human Rights. .
Corporal punishments may result into several emotional, as well as psychological challenges whose effects are felt even after children become adults. It can considerably spoil the liaison between the children and the adults. It is against human nature to show affection to someone that hurts their feelings or harm them. Gradually, children may start to fear adults who make use of physical means to discipline them. Although this fear may facilitate change of habits for a while, it does not imply that the child's behavior has changed for the better.
