Skating Across Cultural Gap and The Kayak

Jordin and Teresa both face different challenges thrown at them, still receiving the same amount of encouragement but in different ways. .
In Skating Across Cultural Gap Jordin's family is more than supportive with his dream of pursuing hockey. Both of his parents, in particular, dedicate their time to their son's hobby and making it as possible to achieve for him as they can. For instance, the article states that "He was better prepared to leave than other Inuit players because his parents-although they could barely afford it-paid for him" (Allen, para.22). Jordin's parents put what they could on the line essentially to help him get ahead in his dream of playing hockey. In comparison, Teresa's parents from The Kayak shows a different kind of support towards her. Similar to the support that Jordin's parents give him, Teresa's mother and father dedicate their life to looking after their child and making it a sure thing that they are well provided for. For example, Teresa say's "My mother pushes a wheelchair over. My father lifts me" (Spring, para. 47). Without a doubt giving the impression that her parents have done this before, they are there for Teresa when she needs them most and would do anything they could to better the situation, putting her first before their well-being. Together the two readings show different ways the family shows support for each person involved. Although they are not similar in examples, they both have family looking out for them and doing everything they possibly can to make it adaptable for Jordin and Teresa even if it means they're families sacrifice their freedom in a sense.
In both readings, Jordin and Teresa receive support from their parents but they also share in common the support from others, furthering to help achieve their goals. In Skating Across Cultural Gap Jordin gets an overwhelmingly amount of praise from others, his fans so to speak. To illustrate, Jordin's "Fans were chanting his name when he played for Canada" (Allen, para.
