Water Filtration Lab Report

In this experiment, we tested samples from Manchester's water supply includes that includes both surface water from reservoirs and groundwater from wells. The focus was to specifically look for the presence of ions and the property of ph levels. There are three trials for the water straight from the source and from the same source, but have been filtered through a Brita Filter. The difference in the investigation would be to compare the different levels of ph and presence of ions with filtered and unfiltered Manchester drinking water. After thee results were compared, the water components are not very different. It can be concluded that Manchester filters it drinking water efficiently taking out the chlorine , odor, zinc, and harmful contaminants like copper, mercury and cadmium. The additional step did not alter the water ph levels or presence of ions. .
             Hypothesis.
If we filter the Manchester drinking water, the water will have less ions like calcium, chloride, and iron because it has gone through the process of filtration with the Brita filter to remove chlorine , odor, zinc, and harmful contaminants like copper, mercury and cadmium.

             Background Research:.
             Drinking Water .
Manchester's water supply includes both surface water from reservoirs and groundwater from wells. There are seven surface water reservoirs and ten wells. Since groundwater supplies are naturally purified when they filter through the soil, additional treatment is required. Treatment of the groundwater supplies consists of disinfection, fluoridation and corrosion control.
