In the song "Stan" by Eminem, he is telling the story about a man who is also depressed, and ends up going insane as well as the narrator in "The Yellow Wallpaper." Stan is a huge fan of Eminem, he thinks that they are the same, and have been through the same things. The song is made up of letters that Stan has written and sent to Eminem. From start to finish of the song, Stan is getting more and more angry that Eminem has yet to reply to a single letter. Stan's obsession with Eminem progresses further throughout the song. At first he tells the reader, that he gave Eminem his cell phone number, his pager number, and his home phone number at the bottom of one of his 5 different letters to Eminem. In the first letter of the song, Stan was a little annoyed that Eminem has not replied to him, but he was understanding about it. In his second letter, he was not so understanding, his tone of writing was much more enraged. Stan's obsession was becoming more clear, "I even had your name tattooed across my chest," (Eminem verse 2). Stan literally has Eminem's name permanently marked on his body. This is showing complete obsession, and borderline stalker-like. Stan says that he talks about Eminem 24/7, and he is all that he thinks about. By Stan's third letter, he has completely lost it. He is absolutely furious with Eminem, because he still has not replied to a single letter. Stan tells Eminem, "You coulda rescued me from drowning," (Eminem verse 3). Stan is killing himself and because Eminem did not reply, Stan is putting the blame of his death on Eminem. Stan ended up driving off a bridge with his pregnant girlfriend tied up in the trunk. In this song, Stan's depression and obsession towards Eminem ends up driving him insane because, Eminem was Stan's role model, and Stan believes that Eminem let him down, all because Eminem didn't reply.
