The Aboriginals of Quebec and the Navi from Avatar, have several things in common. First of all they both believed in animism. Animism is the belief that all things in the world have a soul. For example, an animal, a rock and a human have a soul. In the movie Avatar there is a good example of animism. When Neyteri, the girl Navi, killed the "dog" she made a prayer to ask forgiveness to him and thanked him for his soul. The same is true in the Aboriginal World about their belief in animism. When the aboriginals hunt, the day before, they always dance to the gods and ask the animals to give them their soul, and when they do kill them, they say prayers to thank them. .
The second similarity is that they both use the same kind of weapons. The Navi people use bows and arrows made of rocks, wood and wool, to kill their enemy, to hunt and fish. Much like the Navi, the Aboriginals used bows and arrows to hunt, kill and fish. This did not change until the French came and took their territory. After that they changed their way of hunting, because the French used guns. Only when the "outsiders" came in Québec did the aboriginals change their weapons because they had to fight for their lives. .
The Navi thought that the gods controlled everything that existed, from a simple grain of salt to a whale in the sea. They thought that the gods decided that you could choose the body that you wanted to be when you died. That is why they said that when you died you went to the spirit life and then you were born again in a different body but with the same soul. That thought was called the circle of life. The aboriginals had the same idea of the circle of life. The aboriginals believed that the gods were always watching them. When somebody killed someone or an animal, it meant they gave you their soul and you had to give them the respect of that gift. So both the Navi and the Aboriginals had to pray when they killed an animal or a human and they all believed in god.
