             The stories of many adoptees' emotional struggles often go unheard, and are often disregarded. In 2011 a documentary titled Somewhere Between was released and adoptees from around the world watched it as the stories of four teenage Chinese adoptees to find their roots is filmed. Somewhere Between is a wonderful example of adoptees and their stories of finding their identity. Knowlton uses these stories to show the world what a challenge it is to be a Chinese adoptee raised in the U.S. and to have a feeling of not knowing where they came from. A girl named Haley refers to herself as a "banana" in the terms she is "yellow" on the outside and "white" on the inside. Her thought is common among not just those adopted from China, but also in those adopted from all over Asia and raised in the U.
