Banning Violent Video Games

If underage people are permitted to buy and play violent video games, the children might never know the effects of their actions in real life. .
In addition to not learning consequences of their actions by playing violent video games, another negative effect of the playing of violent video games is that children do not learn appropriate problem solving or social skills. As shown in studies by psychologists such as Craig A. Anderson, violent video games increase aggressive thoughts and behaviors. For example, If children are experiencing a social issue in school, instead of reasoning with the person they are disputing with, they will be more inclined to try to solve the issue with violence. Angry feelings are also increased as a result of extensive violent video game playing, and if faced with an issue, people's decisions are affected by their emotions. "The impact of incidental emotions on decision making is well established" (Vohs and Baumeister, 2007). As previously stated, violent video games reward players for violent actions, such as shooting someone. This may mislead minors who play the games to believe that violence can be used to settle disputes, rather than promote the use of good conflict-resolution skills. If minors continue to be allowed to purchase and play violent video games, they might not even understand the importance of good problem solving skills. .
Not only do violent video games cause small-scale psychological problems, the violence in violent video games is linked to real life. Youth and children learn violent habits and behaviors through these games, and many real-life mass murders can be linked to excessive play of violent video games. The recent, tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut aroused the debate about violent video games and their effects on player's thoughts and behaviors. Many politicians and celebrities disprove of violent video games, and even game designers agree that, "Ultra violence has to stop.
