It's been 68 years now, and television is an inescapable part of our modern 21st century culture. We depend on the television for entertainment, news, education, culture, weather, sports and even music since the advent of music videos. People normally associate television as "the idiot box". In order to experience life in a positive manner, we are usually asked to look at the glass half full rather than half empty, we can actually use the same principle when we are discussing about television. We can either use the television to gain knowledge or use it for all the wrong purpose in which the saying "idiot box" is then correctly used. Nowadays, there are many programs on television that can provide us with much information and it can help us to increase our general knowledge and see how wide and vast is the world. Taking television networks, parents and my stake as a teenager who is a viewer into consideration, I believe that television has its benefits. In addition, in case there's a bad program being aired on television, it's then the role of the parents or the elderly of the household to intervene and educate the young one.

There are many television channels in the United Sates alone. For example there's ABC, CBS, CWTV, TBS, NBC, Discovery, History, CNN and many more. Maximizing average audience size is a major objective for them (Horen 354-370). All they want is to schedule their programs on the right time so that their program tops the other and this in turn pulls more investors and more money for their network. Peak time for maximum number of audience is in the mornings and evenings till night. At this time, television channels will air family base programs. .
In the mornings, programs such as Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, and cartoons such as SpongeBob is aired for the children so that they will be able to watch it and learn some educational stuff while they are in their babysitter's house.
