The Love of Basketball


They all started from the bottom with a dream and they did whatever it took to get to where they are now. They all are labeled as something for instance, Brittany Griner is known as the girl who can dunk from Baylor, Skylar Diggins is known as the pretty girl from Notre Dame, and everyone has a title and what you do with that title is on you. Brittany Griner went from the girl being bullied for being tall when she was younger to being the girl known for her height in the WNBA. She got teased growing up for being the girl who was really tall with a deep voice and her sexuality was gay. She got called a freak for just being different but when she made it to the WNBA, she was no longer a freak, people started idolizing her and wanting to be her or be like her. Her freshman of high school was her first time playing basketball, "It was a way out, and it was a way for me to feel free. It doesn't matter how I dress, how I look. All that matters is that if you could put the ball in the hole and how you perform. That's where the freedom part comes is, basketball is a different way to clear you mind. Most people go smoke or use drugs (pills) to calm down or clear their mind, not us basketball players, the court and a ball is our cure and freedom and that is all we need. With Griner being called names and picked on she wanted to end it all at points in time but she was introduce to the game of basketball and she fell in love. Now Brittany Griner is 6 feet 8 inches, with a wingspan of 88 inches, wearing a size 17 men's shoe ad weighs 200 pounds. She is 23 years old and is arguably one of the greatest basketball players in the game. She was the number 1 draft pick for the WNBA in 2013. "Telling blacks not to come to a basketball game. That is such a racist remark and a shame. Making such a comment is an absurdity. In the professional basketball community, African-Americans make up the great majority.
