Through life many people go through very tough times. Through these times we learn that we have to pull through it no matter how hard it is. We can never give up; just think positively and we'll pull through. This is just what the professional surfer with one arm, Bethany Hamilton did. On the morning of Halloween 2003, Bethany's life changed forever. Just like any other day in Kauai, Hawaii, Bethany woke up to the smell of the salty air coming from the ocean which made her eager to get in the water and surf. She met up with her best friend Alana Blanchard, Alana's father, and Alana's brother at Tunnels Beach. When they got there, there were numerous turtles in the calm and crystal clear water. It was gorgeous. As soon as they got there Bethany and Alana wasted no time heading out to the ocean. "Let's go!" they said to each other. And with that they headed out to the water. .
Who knew that in a matter of 15 minutes, 13-year-old Bethany Hamilton's life would change forever. After catching some really nice waves, the two best friends decided to take a break. Bethany was just laying on her board with her arm hanging off the side, when all of a sudden a gray blur came up and grabbed a hold of her arm pulling back and forth like tug-of-war until it detached her arm. Bethany just held on to her board until it let go. After she let go, she told Alana "A shark just bit me". Alana noticed that the ocean suddenly turn red. Crying she said "Dad hurry! A shark just bit Bethany!" Alana's father quickly paddled over to the two girls. As soon as he reached them he told his son "hurry go in and call 911!" He took off his shirt and started wrapping up Bethany's arm to try and stop some of the blood loss. Alana and her father started paddling the three of them to shore as quickly as they could. .
While all of this was happening, Bethany remained calm. She kept thinking, "I'm going to live.
