From this scene, one can think that Father Benito has nothing but genuine love, care, and concern for the people that surrounds him. However, good will and generous acts cannot overshadow the tainted cause or means to realize them. It was revealed that Father Betino had formed some kind of allegiance with an infamous local drug lord and accepts money and assistance for the completion of the hospital. He argued that the bad money which he receives from the drug lord, he then uses it for a good cause. He exerts that the means do not matter as long as the end result is righteous. He uses as an excuse that it is all to serve God. He hides behind his title as a priest to achieve what he wants and thus, I believe that he is corrupt.
Throughout the duration of the film, I saw Father Amaro as a young priest but most of all; as a sincere and innocent individual who stays true to his faith. And so, I was thrilled to find out how he would handle the temptations around him such as the young, sweet, and beautiful Amelia. Would he fall prey like Father Benito? Or will he fight the temptations that surround him and stay true to the Will of the Lord? I had high hopes for Father Amaro especially since he was the main protagonist of the film. I had thought that he will be the one to right the wrongs of the others. I thought that he was more capable that Father Benito. However, I was not able shook the feeling that I might be wrong; that Father Amaro might be the same as Father Benito. Maybe it was how Amelia looked at Father Amaro whenever he ate at their restaurant or maybe it was how cautious Father Amaro was whenever Amelia was around. Amelia showed signs of great interest for Father Amaro; signs that hinted that she would do anything just to be able to have him. Father Amaro on the other hand always showed a sign of weakness for Amelia. It always seemed that he was always at the edge whenever they had a conversation.
