I will discuss how some of the dimensions of McDonaldization are present in my life. Efficiency, control, and predictability which are three of the four dimensions will be covered. The positive and adverse effects these dimensions have in my life will be discussed as well. These are skills used to get people and atmosphere conducive to the way a person in control wants it. .
Efficiency .
This is when time and effort is well used for the intended task or purpose. In my home and outside of the home, efficiency is imperative. Things need to be done in a timely fashion, with errors. Lateness is not an option, especially at work. My children have choirs, my 17-year-old, of course, has more responsibility than my 4-year-old. The 17-year-old has a set schedule that has to be followed as soon as she gets in, and there is a time when she is to be finished. If she is not done in time, with no good reason there are consequences. My 4-year-old also has a schedule I'm teaching her now so when she gets older efficiency will not be a problem for her. When it comes to work and workers clocking in late punch in are not an option. When a worker shows up late with no good excuses, it sets the rest of the work day behind. I do understand situations will happen, but it would have to be a good reason for a person to be justified. Ritzer states McDonaldized systems function efficiently by following the steps in a predesigned process (Ritzer 13). The positive of this is by me having a predesigned process things will not fall out of order. On the flip side, there is a negative to this process it leaves next to no room for error. If a dangerous situation happens in the home or at work everything will be thrown off and it can be hard to get things back on track, especially in the workplace. I would like to become more at ease and free flowing, to make room for the mishaps in life. .
Predictability.
Repetition of action, behavior making it possible to know in advance what will take place.
