Have you ever imagined the life of many U.S born children in the United States that have to change their life in the blink of an eye because of the deportation of their parents? This is the story of many children who face many struggles having undocumented parents. The Immigration Law in America is undeniably broken and has emotionally impacted the lives of many Hispanic families, mostly the children's. This problem of deportation is one of the biggest issues that this country is having right now and one of the problems that need to be addressed as soon as possible to give children citizens of the U.S.A. a better quality of life and a better future. Some of options that could help these children is to give them special therapy, or provide a waiver to their parent(s) to stay longer in this country or on the other hand give asylum to their parents.
Since The Senate passed the Immigration Reform Bill and sent it to the House, more than 75,000 children have had one or both parents deported. According to an estimate by the article "Exploring Parent–Child Communication in the Context of Threat: Immigrant Families Facing Detention and Deportation in Post-9/11 USA," by Brinton Lykes, Kalina Brabeck, and Cristina J. Hunter, "5.5 million children with unauthorized parents, and three-quarters are U.S. born citizens" (125). Therefore, the U.S. born children are severely at risk of being separated from their undocumented parents. When a U.S. born child's undocumented parents are deported, he/she is faced with many difficulties as economic hardships, and emotional and psychological traumas.
But what happened with these kids after the deportation of their parent(s) to their country? It depends on each situation, if both of the parents are deported, or only one. Some of the children can decide if they want to stay here with the Department of Welfare where they put them in foster care, or if the children want to go with their parents.
