The Politics of Ronald Reagan


Reagan's track record proved to be very strong and included welfare cuts, decreasing the number of state employees, and halting radical student protesters. Like other Grand Old Party members, Reagan came into office promising to limit the power of government and to strengthen American military power overseas. "In this present crisis," Reagan said in his inaugural address in 1981, "government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." (Grimm, 2013) Reagan was stating that government was holding the economy back of its full potential. .
             In the five categories of the eco system Reagan demonstrates the bio section in his early moments as president of the United States. As being elected as the oldest president in United States history, it affects the bio section on race, gender, and age. With Reagan being at the older adulthood stage of his life, it allowed him to have knowledge and understanding of political issues that possibly a young adult candidate may have lacked. Another section of the bio category that Reagan displays is chronic medical issues. Colon cancer quickly captured a part of Reagan's early terms of presidency. At seventy four years old this may have frightened him that his life may soon be coming to an end. With being out of office it was very possible that some of the brilliant decisions that Reagan had made may no longer be accessible. Instead of letting the cancer have an effect on his presidential term, Reagan defeated the cancer and continued as president.

             Ronald Reagan wasted no time in institutionalizing the new conservative creed. In 1981, after surviving an assassination attempt, Reagan pushed his plan of lower taxes which was that proved most beneficial to the rich and steep budget cuts through a hesitant Congress. In addition to that year he cut spending on social security, debilitated and weakened organized labor groups, and lived up to his campaign promises and commitments by reducing government regulations and laws that had prevented mergers while managing the banking industry (Grimm, 2013).
