Enforcing the No Child Left Behind Act

The success of the act did not last, however. The students soon began to complain about the extra work and also about how curriculum was being taught. Upon interviewing various students, Bland got better understanding of how they about learning. One student proclaimed, "I just do not understand how I can be learning about the American Revolution one day and then the Great Depression the next" [Bla14]. This is the very concern many parents and students today. They feel as if they are being taught a curriculum that is not only difficult to understand, but also one that is being taught to them as if they were robots and could take it all in and fill in the blanks on their own. Statistics show that since 2005 the dropout rate for eighth graders increase by 8% and the dropout rate for high school seniors increase almost 20% [Bla14]. .
Although elected officials had the right idea about the act when it first came into law, they should take into consideration that as time goes on, the act, as well as its progress over time needs to be reviewed to see if the results are improving or not [OBr13]. To many, the bill should be removed or revised because it is, in fact, leaving people behind. What Congress needs to understand is that people learn at different paces and that not everyone can learn at the fast pace that these classes are being taught. The smart kids might get it the first day and of course the teacher would need to move on, but what about the other kids who are only average? They cannot comprehend the lesson as fast and now the teacher must leave them to give the others who understand something to do. This contradicts itself entirely because these three or four kids are being left behind without any aid from instructor. However, for the same scenario, but vice versa, the teacher stops the class to help the three or four people that do not understand; now the ones who understood the lesson are left without anything else to do for the day.
