Benefits and Drawbacks of Social Networking


Thanks to Facebook, even though friends of mine and I have been apart nearly three years since then, we are still able to recall our great old memories by chatting, reposting old photos filled with emotions, or celebrating birthdays as if we were in the same place, but what if I met these friends some decades ago when there was no social media to make our global-wide communication this easy? What if hand-written letters, which might take weeks to reach them, were the only possible way to communicate internationally? We may not have cultivated our relationships this deep, and it is rational to think that our bonds could fade away
             Hence, social networking demonstrates its greatest ability when used appropriately that enables us to reach whomever we want to despite the distance. .
             With regard to the downsides of social networking, wasting time might be on the list, and this would cause a variety of related issues such as having lower academic grades. A day consists of twenty-four hours equally for everyone without exception. Therefore, the three hours consumed online scrolling up and down the apps and the three hours spent on productive activities like studying, working out at gym, and enjoying your hobbies are equivalent in time, but not in value. However, throwing yourself off the habit is usually tough especially once you are married to it. According to Christine Rosen in "Electronic Intimacy," she claims, "In a world of electronic intimacy, we elevate immediacy and availability, from which we glean a great deal of pleasure. But it is a pleasure tinged with pleonexia – we always want more" (96). I have often attempted to prevent myself from spending countless hours doing nothing but looking at iPhone when I needed to complete a bunch of school assignments, as many of you may have. These mental conflicts, nonetheless, have always ended with unwanted results.
