Principles of Ethics in Engineering

This is a serious ethical issue that many students may face. If caught drinking underage, students could be ticketed, fined, or arrested. These punishments will show up on a student's permanent record and hurt them in the long run when they try to get a job, transferring schools or going on to earn a higher degree beyond a bachelor's degree. Students need to make the proper ethical decision to not drink while still underage to avoid the serious consequences that come with getting caught drinking underage.
Students have the obligation to behave ethically because they have been accepted into college and have agreed to follow the rules of the institution. Schools set forth these rules to protect the students and their academic careers. These schools emphasize rules against drinking and cheating as well as other forms of misconduct. Those rules are put in place for students to follow and could be compared to a code of ethics because they are guidelines to what you can and cannot do. Students have an obligation to their parents to follow these rules because their parents allowed them to enroll and are helping the student pay for school. Also parents support their children and encourage them to go to college. Students owe it to their parents to follow the rules and succeed in college. They also have an obligation to themselves to study because each student worked hard to be accepted into a college and graduate high school. They have to prove that their hard work was not a waste of time while partying, breaking the rules, and potentially failing out would be a waste of all of the hard work they put in throughout their life. One other obligation they have is to the school to which they are enrolled. The school accepted them, allowed them to enroll, and now trusts them to do the right thing while they are enrolled in college. The college wants them to succeed and actually needs them to succeed so they have better ratings, and can attract more students.
