Every four years, a spectacular event occurs where millions of football fanatics from all over the world gather to celebrate 'the beautiful game' – the FIFA World Cup. Years in advance, countries bid to win the hosting rights for this prestigious tournament. Members of the FIFA Executive Committee vote for the nation that best fits the characteristics necessary to display the art of football (The Irish Times). In 2010, FIFA granted Qatar the rights to host the 2022 World Cup (Manfred). Qatar is incapable and unworthy of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and their rights to hosting the tournament need to be revoked. .
During the selection process FIFA assesses factors including accommodation, facilities, and safety (FIFA). Qatar had the worst evaluation report out of its competitors with only one out of nine categories marked as low-risk, and the other eight categories marked as medium to high risk (FIFA). Up against USA, Australia, South Korea, and Japan, it is hard to believe that Qatar managed to rack up more votes than all of them (FIFA). Qatar used bribery to earn votes to win host of the world cup (Gibson). Within the next two years after the 2010 vote, almost half of the committee was confronted with corruption allegations (Gibson). The most outrageous bribery scandal involves Mohamed Bin Hammam, a Qatari ex-FIFA vice president (The Irish Times). Bin Hammam earned a lifetime ban from FIFA after distributing up to $5 million to over 30 African football officials to secure the votes of the African Confederation for Qatar (The Irish Times). Without the many acts of bribery, Qatar would not have won the World Cup bid. The only logical solution is a re-voting, without the deceitful and unjust Qatar. .
The host nation of the World Cup should be one that emulates inclusion, unity, happiness, and togetherness, representative of Football's values. Qatar has not legalized homosexuality, and is notorious for discrimination (Manfred).
