The carvings and depictions that where on sandstone blocks on the right side of the temple where also depicted on the left side. The temple was a remarkable piece; I was taken back by the size of the temple and its incredible details. The inside was also filled with more carvings, as you enter they're two large pillars that are almost identical to each other. Walking inside the sandstone piece you catch a glimpse of a woman's half body that is said to be the God's wife Tagerem(MET). She is made of limestone and is presented on a pedestal with only half of her lower body. She is very simple and much more life like than the usual Egyptian sculptures. The Temple of Dendur gives us a glimpse of the beliefs and culture of the ancient Egyptians. Witness at the metropolitan museum of art it is not simply just a piece of art but it is a confirmation of history that enlightens us about life century's ago. .
The second work of art is by Vincent Van Gogh "La Bergeuse" (woman rocking a cradle); Augustine Alix Pellicot Rouling, 1851-1930(MET). This piece is oil on canvas painting, which is quite large in size. The woman in the painting also takes up most of the space in the frame. The texture is raised and it looks rough but overall it gives the impression of being smooth. This painting belongs to the postimpressionism gallery in the 20th century European art according to the MET. Vincent Van Gogh painted 5 versions of this portrait of Augustine Rouling who was the wife to one of his good friends. Van Gogh admired Ms.Rouling because he thought her to have good judgment and always chose the best, which is one of the reasons why she chose "La Berguese" for herself. Van Gogh began the portraits of Augustine before he had a breakdown in 1888 (MET) and returned to finish his portrait in early 1889. According to The Metropolitan Museum Of Art He called it the "La Berguese" meaning lullaby or woman who rocks the cradle.
