The Uniqueness of Human Beings

According to the 2010 census, the population of New York City was 8,175,136. This means that there are about 68,872 people per square mile.6 Communities are also often based on common characteristics between the people living there. They live together, laugh together, and eat together. Most humans want to have a communal life surrounded by the people who care about them. They are seen within states, cities, schools, and families. The fact that humans want to live together is a trait shared by a good number of other animals on the earth.
South Africa is the home of the meerkat, known for standing on their back legs. Within the community that the meerkats live in, there are several families that work together to survive. Some meerkats keep watch for predators, like eagles and hawks, while others stand guard for the ones digging their home and looking for food.7 None of that would be possible without the help from the others in the community. They rely on one another and keeping each other safe and healthy.
6,270 pounds is the most weight ever lifted by a single human being, but not everyone can perform such a feat.8 This is why humans must collaborate; it helps get things that would otherwise be impossible, done. It would have taken decades for one very patient man to build the empire state building alone, but this is not the case. It took 1 year and 45 days to finish the whole building.9 This was only achieved through humans working together and getting the job done to benefit, not just them, but all that would use it. Humans work together every day and many of the tasks performed would not be possible without working together. Many times, the work that was done wouldn't have been possible without animals to help, but do animals ever work together?.
The humpback whale travels in a group called a pod. A whale needs to eat over a million calories a day.10 That is 500 times the usual daily caloric intake of the average human.
