By being the next king, Henry knew he had to step up to satisfy the people of England. Thus, he decided to be innovative and take over France to show his worthiness of being a king. .
One of Henry's greatest qualities is his ambition and resolve. He set out to make accomplishments that were not dared by his descendants. Henry desired to take over France, which was stated that "[his] great-grandfather Never went with his forces into France" (I.II.291-292). This was a big announcement for England as no one believed Henry's aspiration was unattainable. Even his confidantes tried to convince him to rethink his choice, "Then hear me, gracious sovereign, and you peers That owe yourselves, your lives and services To this imperial throne. There is no bar To make against your highness' claim to France" (I.II.178-181). However, Henry made his decision and set his mind to achieve his goal. He used his available resources to their potential to ensure his success in capturing France. This trait is especially needed in a powerful leader, as ambition is a drive for success. An ambitious person is a hard worker striving to achieve their goal. This is a positive characteristic, but being too ambitious can result in an opposite effect. However, Henry is perfectly situated in between where his goal may be difficult, but attainable. .
Many people are hesitant about Henry's choice, especially the Church and soldiers. At the English camp of Agincourt, two soldiers are discussing the war and if it is being executed for the correct moral reasons, "Brother John Bates, is not that the morning which breaks yonder? I think it be: but we have no great cause to desire the approach of day" (IV.I.1935-1936). Although the king is being doubted, he still goes on with confidence, believing in his cause. He states, "Therefore when he sees reason of fears, as we do, his fears, out of doubt, be of the same relish as ours are: yet, in reason, no man should possess him with any appearance of fear, lest he, by showing it, should dishearten his army" (IV.
