Poetry Summary - Moving by Shahriar Shahriari

The vivid diction connects to the tone of the passage, which helps to deepen the personal voice in the poem.
Secondly Shahriari uses tone in his poem to help amplify his own personal voice. He uses his personal voice to convey an emotional tone throughout his poetry. Tone is the main tool, which he uses to convey his feelings on the certain subject. He is an immigrant and skillfully uses his tone in only ten lines to create a real and wholesome tone to create a poem in the voice of an immigrant who has lived through these hardships. Shahriari uses second person point of view to help connect his thoughts of immigrating. He uses words such as "we" and "you" to help show how he is using his voice to try and help speak for others who do not have one themselves. All of these devices help to convey the tone or struggle in an immigrant's life. After his arrival to Canada Shahriari states that "In our life, go to a new emotional stage/We carry our old sadness, guilt, and rage" (Shahriari 5-6), which shows how even though he left his country he still carries everything from his past life into this new one. It is difficult for him to start a new chapter in a new foreign and different country. It brings to reality the hardships that the immigrants had to go through and endure. There are many different obstacles that people coming from a new country have to go through and persevere their heritage. In the poem he is trying to be hopeful of the new life that awaits him, yet he is clearly scared of the life that is ahead of him because it is so different then what he is accustomed to. It is a completely different word and life that he has to go through. He refers to the struggle and recognizes how it can be an ongoing struggle for many immigrants. He says how many immigrants carry their struggles and fears with them as they come to a new country, and how those certain feelings have to stick with them for the rest of their lives.
