After his arrival to Canada Shahriari states that "In our life, go to a new emotional stage/We carry our old sadness, guilt, and rage" (Shahriari 5-6), which shows how even though he left his country he still carries everything from his past life into this new one. It is difficult for him to start a new chapter in a new foreign and different country. It brings to reality the hardships that the immigrants had to go through and endure. There are many different obstacles that people coming from a new country have to go through and persevere their heritage. In the poem he is trying to be hopeful of the new life that awaits him, yet he is clearly scared of the life that is ahead of him because it is so different then what he is accustomed to. It is a completely different word and life that he has to go through. He refers to the struggle and recognizes how it can be an ongoing struggle for many immigrants.
