Coach K had so much confidence that he even said that Duke was going to win the championship this year. The next thing you know is that Duke is in the race to a championship. They just have to get through the teams in the bracket and they would be good to go. Duke put on a great show these games and was off to the Final Four. The first team that they played in the Final Four was UNLV, a great team founded by people with great knowledge of basketball. The score was close throughout the whole game, but Duke came up with the victory. Now the big challenge, Kansas. This is where it all counts, every practice, every game, every time they stepped out on the court it was for this reason. The National Championship game against Kansas was a very good fight, but Duke beat Kansas 72-65. This was just Duke's first National Championship, there is more to come.
Now it's the season of 1992 and Duke is back at it to win another championship. A huge win for duke is that four of 5 starters came back for this year. That gives duke the odds of winning the championship even more. When players like Christan Laettner, Bobby Hurley and Grant Hill are on a team together, it makes it really hard for their competitors to keep up with them. This was what they called a stacked team. Many people believe this was the best team ever in College Basketball History. Duke went through the season with a blast, knocking out teams left and right all the time. The team chemistry was so high because the players have played with each other for a couple years and they now know what each others abilities are. This really helped the growth of the team. When you talk about leaders, Christian Laettner was one of them. If someone was not giving it their all in practice, he would literally make them run more or does something that would make them listen. Many people are surprised he did not go on to coach and NBA or college team. This was duke's eighth straight year going to the NCAA Tournament.
