Do you ever see the future when reading the newspaper or book, when skimming through your celebratory magazine? It's actually staring you in your face, "Printing." Printing is considered one of the most important inventions in history. The phenomenon of printing in all its forms has made it possible for us to promote our knowledge in the masses by the printing of books, newspapers, and magazines. Over the years with more technologies came the invention of the 3D Printer. The importance of this invention to our future can only be measured in time. 3D printing allows doctors to make kidneys, lungs, ears, and for engineers the manufacturing of cars, also for architects to build houses. Not many understand what 3D printing is, how it works and where it is applied.
To start off, the history of printing goes back to when we duplicated images by means of stamps. Over the years, many modifications have developed to meet the needs of society, technology and science. From the basic start of Woodblock printing which was printing on cloth, then later to paper, to the invention of the printing press which allowed the ink to be evenly distributed to make cleaner prints on cloth and paper, then naturally the step to, printing in color. Followed by the rotary printing press, images that are printed on a curve around a cylinder. Inkjet computer printing that recreates a digital image. Laser printing, which is a rapid procedure, producing high quality text and graphics by repeatedly passing laser back and forth. Thirty three years later, the 3-D printer was invented. These developments have not only given us access to high level of knowledge but also allowed scientists, architect, and doctors to make advancements in medical and technological fields.
In 1985, Michael Feygen added a new dimension to printing. 3-D printing is a process where a machine is able to make a three-dimensional solid figure from designing the figure on a program and putting the files on the computer.
