From Desperation to Determination

Have you ever been desperate? Have you ever needed something and you didn't know how or if you were going to get it? Desperation is a mixed feeling of hopelessness and misery. When you're desperate your mind is constantly thinking and worrying. Maybe a mother can not afford formula for her new born baby, the mother is desperate. Maybe a father has lost his job and needs to find another so he can provide for his family, the father is desperate. Or maybe a student has just realized their financial aid did not cover the cost of tuition and in four days they will be automatically withdrawn from their classes, the student is desperate. Desperation has a way of infuriating insecurities and oppressing expectations. .
Many times in my life the feeling of desperation has seep into my soul and taken over my thoughts and aspirations. Desperation has overwhelmed my desires and shut out my ambitions. However, when I look back over my life and reflect on where I've been and what I been though, I can say I have turned desperation into determination. .
As far back as I can remember I was a child who was desperate for mother's attention. I was the youngest of two, the only girl, so it would seem that attention was dished out in healthy servings. But my brother, who was and still is perfect, demanded attention from anyone in a quarter mile of him and always received it. Mother didn't even want a girl and she tells the story of how she cried when the doctor announced me rather frequently. This desperate desire from a little girl's heart made me determined never to show favoritism to my children. I let my children know they are equally important to my life and I would be nothing without them. Some days when I look at my children I remember the desperation I felt when mother would not hug me. I am determined to hug and hold my children and let them know that I love them beyond Thanksgiving and Christmas. .
The absence of a father has many adverse effects.
