In the short story "The Day of the Last Rock Fight," by Joseph Whitehall, Ronnie Quiller is responsible for the murder of Gene Hanlon and the suicide of Peter Irish. Ronnie Quiller tells the story in the form of a letter to his father. The purpose of the letter is to ask to come home from Fallbrook Academy, a special school for the emotionally disturbed teenagers. Ronnie was secretly the only witness to the murder of Gene Hanlon by the hand of Peter Irish, Ronnie's best friend. Ronnie's father sent him to Fallbrook after he began to have nightmares from keeping his secret. Ronnie wrote this letter to his father because he noticed from the news that Peter had committed suicide and now he wants to return home. Ronnie had the ability for moral decisions and therefore is accountable for those decisions; he lost the chance to save both Gene and Peter. Ronnie missed opportunities to make appropriate moral decisions to prevent the death of Gene's murder and Peter's suicide.

Ronnie Quiller is slightly built teenager who wears glasses and he loves reading; he is good in academics, so he always help Peter out for his homework. Ronnie and Peter Irish are 'best friends'; their relationship is swapping talents to each other. Peter Irish symbolizes stone, as in the short story he is big and tall. Peter protects him and taught him how to skin a squirrel and taught he judo holds. Gene is big and beefy; he is a football player at school. Gene is a boy that used to bully others a lot. Also, he is really attractive; girls at school love him so much. One day, Gene bullied Ronnie by pushing him down the stairs at Manning Day School. Ronnie's books and also his glasses was all fell on the ground. Ronnie loves books, which made him hate Gene more. Peter saw the whole incident, and he also asked Ronnie does he want him to punish Gene, but he said not to do anything.
