America and Our Wounded Warriors

"Most of us have had to sign waivers where we understand that the housing we were in failed to meet minimal government standards." Wounded war veterans from Fort Irwin in California stated. Similar things have been said by other war veterans from many different places. For example, from Fort Campbell in Kentucky, A wounded veteran said "There were yellow signs on the doors stating that our barracks had asbestos." Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can cause health problems with the lungs. The wounded warriors are not all getting the help that they are needed especially if they have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is why I chose the subject of ' Is the American public turning its back on wounded warriors?' These wounded warriors have served this country and America can't even support them to get better. The Government says that there is not enough money for the medical field to have new and updated equipment, but I think there would be enough if the government would stop spending money on things that are not as important. For example, the U.S. government is spending $750.000 on a new soccer field for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay. That three- fourths of a million dollars could be used to go to the military hospitals for new equipment, so the wounded warriors could get the assistance that is needed. I have taken a strong interest in finding out if America is turning its back on the wounded warriors because my dad has been wounded in war and I want to know if he is getting his full benefits. It makes me furious to see the government wasting money when it could be used for research on post-traumatic stress disorder, which most war veterans get when they have been through what they usually go through during a war.
Post-traumatic stress disorder is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event in psychological trauma. " Nearly 64,000 of the more than 184,000 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who have sought VA health care have been diagnosed with potential symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, drug abuse, or other mental disorders as of the end of June"(Hull).
