Fire - Mysterious and Angelic

We all know that fire is dangerous, right? It's hot, it burns, and it can spread quickly. People only look at fire as being a destructive element of nature. Now, when fire is misused, it will indeed cause harm to you and/or the surrounding area. This is why fire safety is a must. Overlook all of the house fires and cataclysmic explosions. Mankind uses fire every day; therefore, it's one of the most important tools we have on planet earth. Fire is known to be a discovery of the Early Stone Age. The first evidence of a controlled fire was traced all the way back to Gesher Benot Ya'agov, a site in Israel more than 790,000 years ago. Fire is angelic because it is important in many religions, it helps us every day, and is important to maintain the cycles of ecosystems.
Fire seems scary and monstrous, but in reality, it is mysterious and angelic. To see the angelic side of fire, first you have to know what fire is. Is fire matter? No, fire is just a visible, tangible side effect of matter that is changing form (Harris, 2001). Fire is a chemical reaction that takes place with the bonding of oxygen and whatever fuel is around. It has to be heated up drastically to ignite; for example, a lightning strike. When the fuel (wood, paper, matches, etc.) catches fire, the make-up of the fuel starts to decompose; hence, smoke is produced. When this chemical reaction occurs, there tends to be an enormous amount of heat. All of the heat is there to keep the chain reaction going! .
Fire is a very important part of many religions. According to Varner, fire is seen as a purifier, illumination and enlightenment, destruction and renewal, spirituality and damnation, and as the generative power of life, energy, and change (Varner, 2009). In Zoroastrianism, fire temples were used in worship. They would worship the sky and light fires in the open-roofed temples. Eternal Fires, or Great Fires, were also believed in by followers of the Zoroastrian religion.
