An abortion can be defined as the ending of a pregnancy so that it does not result in the birth of a child which is also called "termination of pregnancy." There are several reasons why women may choose to have abortions. Some of these reasons are; they were not ready for the commitment that is required in raising a child, becoming pregnant from been raped or the experience of incest, financial instability where the individual believes will prevent them from being able to support the child properly when it is born and teenage pregnancy; not mature physically, mentally and emotionally and psychologically to deal with a baby. .
Some women although they maybe mature and financial secure if become pregnant will choose to have an abortion because they believe that having a baby will 'tie them down.' It would therefore prevent them from being able to do things that they would like, go places they would like to go and subsequently affect their freedom, hence they were not ready to make the commitment required to raise a child. The experience of being raped and incest bears tremendous psychological and emotional pains in addition to felling a sense shame and guilt. A pregnancy under such experience propels the individual to have an abortion as having a baby under such circumstances will be a constant reminder of the ill-fated experience.
All women should want to be able to take care of all of their child's needs whether it is physical or otherwise, most importantly being able to provide a child with the three basic necessities needed; being food, shelter and clothing which requires financial support. A woman who feels that she is not in a financially stable position to provide for herself and a child properly may opt to having an abortion because she does not want to 'bring a child into th.is world to suffer' since she feels she cannot provide properly the child its basic needs.
