According to the Soviet Union, the US was "alarmed by the failure of the United States-staged economic blockade of revolutionary Cuba. They would like to strangle the Cuban people, to make them their satellite to wipe out the achievements of the revolution, accomplished by the heroic people of Cuba" (Statement, 2). Yet another accusation by the Soviet Union, as one may know that the US would never "strangle" anyone. The US simply did not want to cause a nuclear war, either, and was trying to get Cuba to not send the missiles anywhere or find cause to launch them. This was a Missile Crisis, which was caused by the Soviets, who made the US a victim and left Cuba in the middle. This was a social issue for Cuba.
In the Guatemalan Execution List, written by the CIA and Carlos Castillo Armas in February 1952, 132 Guatemalan Communist Personnel were scheduled to be executed. This was a secret document, and the CIA deleted all the names of executionees when the document was released. It was produced in preparation for the 1954 coup d'état of Arbenz. The CIA thought that if they killed these communists, they would be able to stage the coup without flaw. This is seen in the title of "Guatemalan Communist Personnel to be disposed of during Military Operations of Calligeris." Guatemala was affected politically by the Cold War. Guatemalan personnel were killed because of the US's opposition to communism. These Communist Guatemalans were "to be disposed of during military operations to be carried out by Calligeris" (Execution, 1). Calligeris was the CIA codename for Carlos Castillo Armas, who staged the coup of Guatemala. He was greatly opposed to Arbenz's (the Guatemalan president at the time) perceived communism. These 132 Communist Guatemalans were killed because of "Calligeris'" opposition to communism. Castillo Armas hated communism and decided to kill off all these Communist Personnel because of his personal opinion.
