Continuing Problems of Modern-Day Racism

The problem was that we used to build things in this country, now corporate greed's only concern is having their hand in someone else's pocket. Good-paying assembly line jobs were being outsourced and the factories were closing its doors. The survivors of this decline, especially whites, fled the cities to pursue new dreams in the suburbs. The problem is, the economy wasn't the only reason that whites fled. The term "white flight" derives from the idea that if more blacks or minorities in general, move into an area, the whites will leave due to a disgusting sense of backhanded racism. As a result of racial tensions in the cities, the only safety blacks could find was in de-facto segregation; many blacks ended up creating their own areas within large urban cities. These neighborhoods were (and still are) deemed by white people as "unsafe" and a very common expression about a black part of town is: "I wouldn't go there, that place is sketchy and in a bad part of town." .
Micro aggressions like those only perpetuate the same irrational fear that caused white flight in the first place. The backhanded racism on the part of whites in this country finally manifested itself in the downfall of Detroit. Blacks have always been treated like second-class citizens, all because of their skin color. What humans need to realize is that the conflicts of their differences will always destroy them one way or the other. America is a melting pot of different cultures and races, and there isn't anything like it anywhere else in the world. Racism isn't taught in classrooms, but it sure is taught at home, it's taught through micro aggressions, racist rants and racial slurs. It's taught through crossing the opposite side of the sidewalk when seeing some black folk on the same sidewalk. Racism isn't born, it's taught, and if we want to save this country from a dark and desolate path, we need to be teaching acceptance, tolerance, and open-mindedness instead of hate, racism, and bigotry.
